Preppin Mama's Homesteaders Hub is Southeast Iowa's homesteading marketplace, learning center, and community gathering place. Located in the heart of historic downtown Mount Pleasant, we bring together local makers, hands-on education, clean foods, and heritage skills to help families gather, equip, and sustain.

Preppin Mama's Homesteaders Hub is more than a store—it's a place where old-fashioned skills meet modern living.
Whether you're taking your first step toward growing a garden or you've been homesteading for years, our mission is simple: to help people reclaim the practical skills that build stronger families and communities.
Inside the Hub you'll discover:
Weekly hands-on classes covering everything from food preservation and gardening to herbal wellness, sewing, soil health, freeze-drying, foraging, sourdough, and more.
A carefully curated marketplace featuring products from Iowa farmers, artisans, and small businesses. Unlike traditional consignment shops, our local makers keep 100% of every sale, allowing every purchase to directly support the people who create them.
Clean, thoughtfully selected products including freeze-dried foods, organic pantry staples, wellness products, mold-free organic coffee, home goods, gardening supplies, heritage-inspired gifts, and practical tools for everyday self-reliance.
Heritage Hall, our gathering space dedicated to preserving the wisdom of generations past. Heritage Hall hosts classes, workshops, community events, and is available to rent for small meetings, clubs, educational programs, showers, and private gatherings in a warm, historic-inspired setting.
Little Mama's Juice & Wellness Bar (coming soon), offering fresh cold-pressed juices, smoothies, organic coffee, nourishing grab-and-go options, and clean foods designed to help families thrive.
Our Heritage Mill (coming soon), where visitors can purchase freshly milled flour and heritage grains while learning about traditional milling and baking.
As the founder of National Homesteaders Day, celebrated annually on August 15, Preppin Mama is proud to lead the national Lost Skills Revival, encouraging communities everywhere to reclaim one lost skill and pass it on to the next generation.
Whether you stop in to shop, learn, teach, gather with friends, attend a class, rent Heritage Hall, or simply enjoy a cup of coffee, you'll always find a welcoming community waiting for you.
Gather • Equip • Sustain.

Hi! I'm Dani Murphy, founder of Preppin Mama, Preppin Mama's Homesteaders Hub, and National Homesteaders Day.
What began as a family journey into baking, food preservation, and self-reliance has grown into a mission to help others reconnect with the heritage skills that once brought families and communities together. I believe homesteading isn't a place—it's a mindset. Whether you live on hundreds of acres or in the middle of town, every person can learn skills that create healthier homes, stronger communities, and greater resilience.
My passion is bringing people together through education, local partnerships, and hands-on experiences that inspire others to gather, equip, and sustain.
Known affectionately as "Little Mama," my daughter Tatum is an essential part of everything we do. Her passion for clean nutrition, hospitality, and helping others has inspired the creation of Little Mama's Juice & Wellness Bar, opening soon inside the Hub.
She loves creating welcoming spaces where people can gather over wholesome food, organic coffee, fresh juices, and meaningful conversation. Whether she's greeting customers, helping at events, or dreaming up new ideas, her joyful spirit reminds us that community begins with genuine connection.
Tatum’s heart is as big as her smile, and her excitement for this journey is absolutely contagious. She brings sunshine to everything she touches and keeps us grounded in joy and purpose every step of the way.

Preppin Mama didn’t begin with a storefront or a business plan. It began at home—learning to bake from scratch, preserve food, grow what we could, and become a little more capable along the way.
What started as our own family’s journey quickly became something we wanted to share. Preppin Mama grew from homemade foods and freeze-drying into a community of people hungry for the same thing: cleaner food, practical skills, trusted products, and connection.
In 2023, we returned to Southeast Iowa and officially founded Preppin Mama. Then came the Homesteaders Hub—a physical home for everything we had been building.
And somewhere along the way, we realized this wasn’t only our story.
It was part of something much bigger.
Today, Preppin Mama is home to the Homesteaders Hub, the Lost Skills Revival, and National Homesteaders Day—founded right here in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.
What began around our own kitchen table has grown into a storefront, a classroom, a community, and now a national movement.
But the mission is still remarkably simple:
Help people become more capable.
Keep good skills from disappearing.
Strengthen homes and communities.
And pass what we know to the next generation.
Gather • Equip • Sustain
Because we were never meant to do it all—or go it alone.
We remain deeply thankful to all those who have offered love and support as we pursue our dream.
